More than 20 years ago I began developing therapeutic treatment approaches for the losses that exist in the intellectual disabilities community, and multi-dimensional models for agencies and families to respond to these diverse losses. The center of this work has been with grieving individuals, but because persons live in communities, I began to work with residential and employment agencies to train staff and to help integrate diverse grief support practices into the agency’s self-understanding of it’s mission. I have also developed psycho-educational programs for families, advocates, psychologists and clergy. I provide a full range of therapeutic support services for individuals, agencies, families and others who are dealing with loss issues. Clinical training and program development services are available to help with all losses persons may experience, including death, broken relationships, injuries to self-regard, difficult changes and other psychosocial losses. In 2005 I published the Guidebook for Helping Persons With Mental Retardation Mourn. I continue to work with families, service providers and others in the support community to advance the integration of a deeply understood and strongly implemented grief support mission in developmental disability communities.
